Cleaning modern glass office buildings cont
Modern building techniques are
enabling new office buildings to use more and more glass in their
construction leading to spectacular and light filled buildings. But how
do you clean them?
As we saw in part one the reach and wash system is a very good eco friendly cleaning method but only for buildings up to height of around 20 meters, the reason being it gets increasingly more difficult to pump the purified water higher requiring larger and larger pumps but also it gets to the point where an operator cannot physically move longer and longer poles.
Cradles and platforms are a common feature for cleaning taller office buildings and these are either built into the structure themselves or a mobile hydraulic platform (commonly referred to as a cherry picker) can be used, although cherry pickers are only for buildings up to heights of around 30 - 40 meters. Both systems require stringent safety checks and special training and insurances.
A lot of more modern glass office buildings are pushing the limits of building techniques and come in variety of shapes and sizes and not just in the skyscraper type which though tall lends itself to being cleaned using cradles.
Now modern buildings bulge outwards or bow inwards or have unusual angles protruding or curving which means a cradle system cannot be used, which means using windows cleaners who are trained and know how to abseil.
Abseiling or rope access cleaning is good for these difficult hard to clean modern buildings, and involves highly trained abseilers working they way down top to bottom. Safety and stringent training is absolutely vital for this type of cleaning and specialist companies are required for this, who must have specialist training and insurances, in the UK please check they are members of the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association.
Modern glass buildings look very impressive with huge swathes of glass making them light filled and need to cleaned regularly to keep them looking at their best which involves using specialist training, equipment and specialist cleaners.
