Daytime office and contract cleaning part 2 - is it more environmentally friendly and is it better to switch over to daytime cleaners?

Cont'd from part 1 Some cleaning contractors are arguing that daytime cleaning is better for the client and the environment. We decided to have a look and see what are the pros and cons?

In some respects daytime cleaning could encourage more cleaners to use public transport and the point that office buildings do not have to be lit at night due to cleaning taking place therefore reducing energy consumption could be argued.

In our experience office cleaners in London or elsewhere use public transport wherever possible, so public transport being available 24 hrs 7 days a week might help get more cleaners using public transport but whether cleaners work day or night wouldn't make a great deal of difference if they use a car or not. Many simply do not own cars.

Not having  to have the lights on during the night because cleaning can take place during the daytime is really another mute point in our experience. Companies leave huge swathes of servers, pc's, telephone systems etc permanently on, lighting only makes a small part of their wasted energy. Besides most office cleaning companies will train their cleaners to switch off lights and switch on alarms as and when needed so the electricity consumption shouldn't be excessive. Teaching employees to switch their pcs off at night would make a far greater difference than switching over to daytime cleaning in this respect.

We at ICS recommend cleaning outside normal working hours for several reasons, one being health and safety - no one is going to trip over a trailing vacuum lead if they're not working there at the time, or slip on a wet floor. Besides is it realistic to expect clients to work around cleaners, isn't supposed to be the other way round, why should a client move to another phone away from the noise of the daytime cleaner vacuuming?

Another reason we prefer nightime cleaning is that cleaners prefer it, they often are looking after children or studying or doing something else during normal office working hours and want something outside those hours, therefore making it easier to recruit better cleaners. And if for some reason cleaners cannot make it during the evening we can get our mobile staff to the site (without having to worry about daytime traffic and parking) to cover the job.

There are pros and cons for daytime cleaning, overall we would suggest working outside normal office hours for a number of reasons including the above, but there are times when daytime cleaning is required and we have set up many clients with great daytime cleaners.

ICS Cleaning are an eco friendly office cleaning company in the UK; we invest a great deal in selecting the right staff, ensuring they have excellent ongoing training and support, so we can be sure we deliver excellent cleaning standards day in day out.
